Ganoderma
Many shrubs and trees in Florida are susceptible to being infected with this disease. It occurs when the pathogen, Ganoderma Lucidum, gets inside the tree through a tear or damaged roots. This infectious agent severely attacks the root system, often leading to the death of the tree.
Some symptoms of Ganoderma include:
- The leaves change to a yellow coloration.
- While the sapwood decays, the tree starts to lose its vitality and luster.
- Fruiting bodies start to appear on the lower part of the trunk.
Usually, when fruiting bodies start to form, there’s not much to do for the tree, and the disease results in death. Currently, there’s no effective treatment for Ganoderma. The best thing you can do to avoid it is to ensure that the tree’s roots don’t get damaged.
